What Is Developmental Delays

Georgia Pediatric Program

Developmental delays refer to slower-than-expected progress in areas such as motor skills, speech and language, cognitive development, and social or emotional functioning. Children with developmental delays may experience challenges with activities like walking, talking, feeding, dressing, following routines, or interacting with others, and they often benefit from structured support and early intervention to strengthen skills and promote independence. Many children require ongoing therapies—including physical, occupational, speech, or behavioral therapy—to address specific areas of need and support overall development. Programs like GAPP (Georgia Pediatric Program) provide essential in-home skilled nursing services at no cost to families, offering individualized assistance with daily activities, therapy routines, and medical needs, helping children with developmental delays grow, learn, and thrive within their homes and communities.

The In-Home Skilled Nursing Program is designed to serve eligible members based on a medical necessity determination for children under the age of 20 years 11 months. We are here to make an even better environment for you and your child to ensure that they receive the supports that they need.
